My newest babies!

Not the best pics. I’ll get them outside in a few days and take more. Aren’t they cute little fluffy butts? The dark one is an OEG & Serama mix. The light chicks are from blue/black/splash parents. They can turn out silkies, sizzles, showgirls or frizzled showgirls.

Let’s play a game!!!

August 23, 2008 at 10:54 pm (Farm, Life) (, , , , , , , )

What does this cute one-month-old duckling have in common with….

this chain & receipt? Hmmmm…………need more clues?

Read the small print………..

Did you guess? I’ll give you three tries and the first two don’t even count!
Now I’m sure that you’ve probably guessed that the duckling somehow had a run-in with the chain.
Did you guess correctly just what the run-in entailed?
I wish I had a picture of the duck as half the chain was hanging out of his mouth…………..and yes, the other half he SWALLOWED!!!!!!!!!
So, lesson learned here………..DO NOT keep chains(it was attached to a feeder), ropes or anything other than food & water around my hungry little adorable EXPENSIVE duckling!!!!!!!!
As you can see by the picture I took tonight, he is doing fine. Thanks for playing!!

He sent me to the book of Jude.

August 19, 2008 at 4:57 pm (God, Life) (, , , , )

Last night before I went to bed, I prayed that God would direct me to read what He thinks will help me.  He took me to the book of Jude, which is totally appropriate because of how ignorant I feel.  I have been questioning how to protect myself & my family against false prophets & teachers.  With so much in the news now, it has really shown me just how naive I am.  I have some more in-depth studying to do, but I feel more “protected” now.  Isn’t God amazing?  If you feel scared or not sure of who you can trust to teach you about God, please read the book of Jude.

Jude 1

1Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:

2Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied.

3Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

4For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

5I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.

6And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.

7Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

8Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.

9Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

10But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.

11Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.

12These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;

13Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.

14And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,

15To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.

16These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men’s persons in admiration because of advantage.

17But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;

18How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.

19These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.

20But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

21Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

22And of some have compassion, making a difference:

23And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

24Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

25To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

I know some people will not like this kind of humor, some may even get offended by it.  I personally think it’s hilarious and hits so many “best parent” things I’ve tried to do.  Oh the pressure to be a best parent!  Read it and try and laugh!

My Granny

August 11, 2008 at 4:50 pm (Children, Family, God, Life) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

This weekend I was really missing my Granny.  It didn’t help that everything I did reminded me of her.  My Granny is the one who taught me how to cook.  I didn’t live close to my family for the first 8 years I was married, so I would call Granny every time I had a question about cooking.  And boy, could she cook!  You never went to her house when she didn’t have a pan of cornbread and a plethora of fresh veggies on the table.  If it was winter time, she still had the pan of cornbread and the veggies were all from things she had canned the previous summer.  What everyone really looked forward to was when she would cook her huge pots of Brunswick Stew or Beef Vegetable Soup.  Yum!!  While I will never live up to how much she canned or put away, I’m going to start trying to do more.  My granny died this past November of Lung Cancer.  I have exactly 3 jars of her jelly left, but I don’t think I can eat it.

I bought a huge basket of peaches from my CSA and this is what some of it turned into.

If you went to my Granny’s during the summer, you expected to sit down and help shell peas or anything she was working on at the time.  I have wonderful memories of sitting on the front porch in a rocking chair or around her kitchen table shelling peas.  When she would make cream corn, there would be corn all over everyone and the walls!

Mess of beans that everyone helped shell.

One of my favorite things she would have was raw, green peanuts.  I was so tickled when I saw that our CSA had included some in our box this week.  These peanuts will be shelled and eaten as is.  Yum!

And last but not least, we had a little fun making, decorating & eating Daddy’s birthday cake!

Just dive on in!

August 8, 2008 at 2:31 pm (Children, Family, God, Life) (, , , , , , , , )

Welcome to the world?  Wow, what a huge pressure to impress.  I don’t need to think like that though.  Let’s do it the right way.

5Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

6In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

~~Proverbs 3:5-6

I pray that this blog will please you.  I pray that you will direct my paths and give me the words to speak.  I pray that the people who read these words will know You as their personal savior.  Thank you Lord for the blessings that you have given me.  I praise You and You alone!

In Jesus’s name I pray,

I have so much to learn and God is working on me constantly.  I am not a biblical scholar and I don’t like to debate.  I will share with you what I feel and believe.  If you feel the Lord leading you to teach me something, then by all means comment.

Look at some of the blessings that God has bestowed on me.
